Introduction

The National Arts Education Archive (NAEA) is now under new management. After 25 years of being managed by a Board of Trustees (The National Arts Education Archive Trust) the Archive has formed a fruitful and mutually beneficial link in partnership with Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP) and the Universities of Huddersfield, York St John and Manchester. After various consultations and negotiations the NAEA Trust agreed, with the approval of the Charity Commission, to pass over full responsibilities for the management, sustainability and future development of the Archive to YSP Trustees. The Trust has now been dissolved and a new Steering Group has been formed (December 2009) on which former NAEA Trustees, Dr John Steers and Professor Ron George, are members.

The assets of the NAEA exist as a major research facility and resource to be developed within YSP learning, research and artistic programming. It was established back in 1985 to provide a documentary trace of the development of arts education in the UK and worldwide, by collecting children's and students' work and the papers, letters and work of key educators and artists in the visual arts, music and language. This material, comprising more than 100 catalogued collections, is based in the Lawrence Batley Centre at Bretton Hall, and is available to researchers, students, lecturers and the general public on an individual basis by appointment The Archive is currently open by appointment only on Mondays and Tuesdays each week.
